Hairspray 2007

Finally, the much anticipated musical of the year is now out in the cinemas!

When a friend of mine, a HUGE John Travolta fan, told me she wanted to watch this movie, i agreed simply because i love watching movies at the cinema. But i have to say, i was not really expecting much (maybe also because of the lack of publicity in Australia).

However, when the first scene came, i knew it was going to be a fantastic movie. As a musical freak, Nicky Blonsky's vocal ability blew me away! Her voice is so beautiful and i think people should stop focusing on her weight and more on how successful she can be. And speaking of that, the musical touches on two issues that i am strongly against: discrimination of fat people and discrimination of dark-skinned people.

One song that really touched me was "I Know Where I've Been" sung by Queen Latifah. To know that some of us out there are trying to change the world for the better (one simple step at a time), is a wonderful thought. But also listen up for all the other songs which i think are rather nice too.

I assume that everyone should know by now that John Travolta plays the character of a woman in the movie and while some think it's disgraceful, without his character, the movie would be boring. His character kept me laughing throughout the entire movie! But oh, i am also happy that there is not really much focus on Zac Efron because i think he is rather overrated but hey, i cannot deny that he's a good dancer and singer.

So go and catch Hairspray at your nearest cinemas now! It's such a happy movie that you simply must watch it! =)
